Windows Media Player on Dual Monitors

I recently had the same problem posted here.

“Windows Media player does something strange when you run on a dual monitor setup. Suppose you are watching a web demo that has the WMP Video Control embedded on the page. When the presentation starts, the video comes up full screen on the second monitor! The same thing happens with non-web-enabled WMP video content. So if you double-click on an AVI file, you will see it in a small WMP window on one monitor and full-screen on the other.

Does anyone know how to stop this behavior? Ideally it should be something I can control on the fly. It is very annoying when you don’t want it, but useful when you do want it.”

Turned out it wasn’t just under WMP, but under WMP Classic also. I realized then that it’s a function of the video card and not the software. I disabled it by going to Display Properties (under Control Panel) > Settings Tab > Advanced button > Quadro FX2500 M (my video card) > Full Screen Video (on the tree on the left) > Full Screen Device (drop down menu) > Disable. Mileage will vary with your video card, but it is a feature of the video adapter and NOT WMP.

Thanks for the help here. I was having this issue, made the change and bang - no dual video now when I’m in WMP11 playing videos. I can continue working on the other screen.

Wow… this was really annoying me for long time. I’m really glad I found your entry, as I spent quite some time cursing MS while aimlessly navigating their player’s options.
